Central Maine Power Company has a $1.5 billion plan to greatly expand its
power lines throughout Maine. It'll mean taking land from homeowners by
eminent domain, stringing high-voltage power lines next to homes and
recreation areas, leveling thousands of acres of Maine woodland, and
destroying valuable Maine wetlands to create vast right-of-ways for the
massive power grid. It will also mean continued reliance on fossil fuels
and more air pollution.
We can provide reliable electrical power by constructing small-scale solar facilities in open fields near several Maine communities - without the use of eminent domain, without destroying wetlands and with far less pollution.
Best of all, our plan will cost Mainers less money, will create more
Maine jobs, will contribute to property taxes in our communities and
will reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy. All
of these benefits derive from one fundamental decision - Maine should
develop solar energy in Maine rather than plough billions of dollars
into transmission lines to bring coal, nuclear, natural gas and other
generated electricity from places far away from Maine.
Our plan represents a new way of thinking, a new way of creating energy for
Maine. As a result, there's a lot of resistance to change.
That's where you come in:
With GridSolar, Maine can take a big step toward energy independence and lower our energy costs and carbon footprint. Find out how you can be a part of it.
